Maldives Honeymoon
The island of Komandoo
Having landed in the capital Male we were then flown to our island by sea plane, or Sea Taxi as they are known locally.
The views of the small islands from the plane were just amazing. After about 40 minutes we arrived at our island and were
greeted by the staff with local food and a drink - coconut ice cream and Mango juice!
The island was small and absolutely stunning (like my new wife), 100 metres wide and 500 metres long. We stayed in a
Jacuzzi water villa on stilts in the sea, which was first class. With our own private balcony we could bask in the sun and
then walk down the steps into the crystal clear sea to go for a swim. With so many different fish around we went
snorkelling on regular occasions and managed to see some fine specimens of Tuna, Cod (we're not too good with fish
recognition!) sharks and Rays, however we were not brave enough to go scuba diving.
In the evenings we would go to the restaurant at the other end of the island and enjoy the wide selection of food whilst
watching the sharks in the sea, and then sit in the bar enjoying too many of the local cocktails. Every evening as soon as
we started walking back the warm tropical rain would begin to clear the skies for a new day. If only we had this arrangement
in England!
Our villa was kept in excellent condition by our excellent room boy Manuel (data protection prevents me from releasing his
real name!) and he and the rest of the island staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful and the food in the restaurant
was exquisite.
We would love to return to Komandoo, it is very peaceful and the ultimate in relaxation, it is absolute bliss and paradise.
For info - We flew out business class with Sri Lankan Airways and the service was fantastic, we returned with Emirates, who
were equally as good.
