At Meon Valley Travel we are firm believers that travellers and travel companies should put something back into the communities we visit.
Below are just a few of the projects and Charities which we currently support, together with links should you wish to find out more.
If at anytime whilst booking with us you would like to make a charitable donation to any of these worthy causes please do let us know and we will happily pass on your donation.
Family Holiday Association - Helping Families for over Thirty years
Working to promote the quality of family life for those parents and children who experience disadvantage as a result of poverty through the provision of and by promoting access to holidays and other recreational activities. In 2005 over 1,200 families went on holiday as a result of their grant making programme.
Sri Lankan School Project
Through our association with Advantage Travel Centres we are delighted to lend our support to building of a new Nursery School in an area of Sri Lanka affected by the Tsunami. Even now work continues long after the TV crews have moved on.
One of our close friends Catherine Leach former Managing Director of Caribtours herself moved out to Sri Lanka and having recently returned to the UK continues with her incredible works.
The Kings Arms Youth Project
The Kings Arms meets the demand from teenagers of Petersfield for somewhere of their own to meet. Over 22,000 visits to the project are recorded each year mainly from young people and the centre is now open on five evenings and six days every week and providing a venue during school holidays.
Over 300 teenagers use the project regularly. One of the most successful aspects they run being an after school club for teenagers the majority of whom would be either home alone or wandering the streets without the existence of the project.
Besides the sporting and leisure activities, the Kings Arms provides manpower to local schools on most days to provide a mentoring and befriending service in order to support pupils who are in danger of being excluded. Sixty plus youngsters are seen individually on a weekly basis helping them with particular problems and there continues to be a growing demand for these services.
The Kings Arms project really does rely on local people, companies and organisations in the Petersfield and surrounding areas to support them financially. As well as Government agencies and charitable trusts we do what we can to support what we feel to be a little publicised yet valuable local asset.
